Building on clients' personal strengths, we use evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practices to address a variety of social, emotional and behavioral challenges including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, PTSD, stress management, parenting concerns, and emotional dysregulation issues. We also work with clients who are experiencing transitions around relationships, career and phases of life.
We view therapy as a supportive and collaborative process, meaning both the client and psychologist work as a team clarifying concerns, creating a treatment plan, and helping clients to achieve their goals.
Prior to beginning treatment, we will work to establish clear goals and provide a sense of how many sessions our work together will take.
Becoming a healthy and resilient adult is a process. And the COVID pandemic hasn't made life any easier for teens. NYMA offers engaging, interactive groups to help adolescents navigate their transition into the adult world. Focusing on identifying values, building self-regulation skills, and setting adaptive goals, NYMA groups meet teens where they are and help them move forward.
If interested, reach out to us so we can add your teen to our list. We'll notify you when our next virtual or in-person group is forming.
Psychological evaluations can be extremely useful when someone wants to more fully understand the dynamics around why they may be struggling at school, work, or in interpersonal relationships. Evaluations typically consist of a combination of clinical interviews and structured assessment measures. Our team is also able to conduct both comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations and specialized forensic evaluations for clients who have legal involvement or concerns.
Raising healthy and resilient children is a challenge and the adage “it takes a village” has never rung more true. The psychologists at NYMA have years of experience supporting parents and caregivers with a range of social, emotional and behavioral challenges including issues related to peers, school, and family dynamics. Our coaching approach draws on effective parent and family interventions, such as parent management training, designed to increase child compliance and reduce common parent-child struggles. Our supportive and non-judgmental parenting coaching reduces the stress and conflict that many families periodically face and equips caregivers with the tools and resources that increase family well-being.
